I just love it when a company releases intuitive features that make sense! A couple of months ago in my Ring Alarm Review I mentioned that it would make a lot of sense if Ring/Amazon would allow for the Ring Alarm door/window and motion sensors to trigger Alexa routines, and as of this week it’s available!
In order to take advantage of this awesome new feature, you’ll need a Ring Alarm kit with at least one motion or contact sensor, and at least one Amazon Echo. If you would like to have your routine control another device in your house, you will need an Alexa compatible smart device, but it is not necessary to create a routine.
If you’ve never created an Alexa routine before, they are incredibly powerful and have the ability to trigger an action or series of actions based upon a voice command, schedule, device, location, or Echo button press. The actions that they can trigger are everything from having Alexa say something, to playing music, to controlling a smart home device and so much more. Routines can be time based, meaning the same routine can do different things depending on the time of day, they can contain delays up to 4 hours, and can have multiple combinations of actions.
To build new routines based on Ring Alarm sensors, simply follow the instructions here and you’re all set!
