Just last year I had a friend vacationing for the holidays only to return home to a flooded house. There was no natural disaster and no vandals. It just so happened that his attic mounted hot water heater gave out while they were away and destroyed three floors of his home. This was enough for me to run out and buy a few of these for my own home.
As a user of Insteon products (these require an Insteon Hub), these Insteon Leak Sensors are simple to add to my existing system. Just pull the tab to connect the battery, push the button and follow the in app instructions. It takes just a few minutes per sensor to prepare them. Then it’s just a matter of placing them where you think leaks are likely to occur. I put two in my basement, covering the hot water heater and a window that tends to leak in heavy rain, and one in my attic beneath the condenser for my central air.
If you really want to get crazy with it, you can pair these leak sensors with an automatic water shutoff and have them automatically turn off the water main for your whole house.
Check out my video below where I unbox the Insteon Leak Sensor and go over some more details.
