One of my biggest complaints about the Nest Cam and Nest Cam Outdoor has always been the price of their subscription service. While one of their closest competitors, Ring (now Amazon), has offered a $30/camera/year or $100/year unlimited plan, Nest’s subscription recording service could easily cost you as much as a new camera every single year.
This week, Nest finally added a more affordable plan costing $5/month, or $50 if you pay for a year upfront, for a 5-day recording history. For most people’s primary residence, five days should be more than enough of a recording history, unless you tend to be away for long periods of time where you don’t monitor your home.
The $5/month plan is still a bit pricy in comparison to other offerings, but it does offer Nest Aware, which is supposed to cut down on false alerts, and works with Nest IQ and Nest Hello, which have facial recognition.
