Long has my home had annoyingly cold spots in the winter and hot spots in the summer. Despite sealing nearby windows and making sure surrounding walls were insulated, these areas of my home refuse to comply with the wishes of my thermostat. NO MORE!
In an answer to Ecobee, Nest released these temperature sensors in 2018. This allows your thermostat to know what temperature the other rooms of your home are, and compensate accordingly. You can also prioritize certain rooms at certain times, making that particular temperature sensor the primary measure of temperature for that zone. Your thermostat will then run the heat or AC until that area is the proper temperature.
The main drawback to these Nest temperature sensors is that they only work with the Nest E, the Nest 3rd Generation Thermostat, or later thermostats. If you have a first or second gen Nest, you’re out of luck.
One of the great things about these sensors is that they don’t actually have to be mounted anywhere, making them completely portable. So when Summer comes around, I can move one or more from the second floor, where the thermostat that controls my AC resides, down to the first floor, giving the thermostat a better idea of the temperature in the whole house.
